TEMPLE OF THE TIGER

In the mythical jungle domain known as the Golden Kingdom, it is said that explorers who follow the lushly landscaped paths and pass through the ancient, vine-covered archways will discover wonders and adventures awaiting them at every turn. And among the most splendid of these wonders is the legendary Temple of the Tiger-a place where man and tiger co-exist in harmony and peace.

WALK-IN & PRE-SHOW
The Gathering

As guests enter the Temple of the Tiger stadium, a stirring musical score fills the space with the exotic sounds of traditional Asian instruments, evoking untamed jungles, lethal grace, and raw, instinctive power. Fully immersed in an atmosphere of mystery, awe and magic, the guests settle into their seats beneath the expansive stadium canopy. An impressionistic tiger face graces the large fabric act curtain, its stripes fading off into a jungle motif at the outer edges. Two raised platforms flank the stage, each supporting an impressive brass gong emblazoned with a distinctive tiger emblem. Though the performance environment remains hidden behind the curtain, these intriguing visual hints, combined with the exotic entry music, serve to stoke the guests' sense of curiosity and anticipation.

Several minutes before showtime, a rich, warm voice welcomes the audience, informing them that the show will be getting underway shortly. Then, with a hint of reluctance, the announcer adds: "Um...one of our big cats has decided to...uh, take a little unscheduled stroll outside of his enclosure. But no need to worry, folks-he's safely behind the barrier." He then urges the guests to stay seated and remain calm while the trainers "round up" the errant animal. Another voice is now heard offstage, shouting: "There it is! Up on the catwalk!" The entry music takes a sudden, dramatic turn, and a spotlight picks out a point on a narrow catwalk suspended above the stage area just in time to catch an adorable little house cat nonchalantly padding its way from one end of the structure to the other.

As the audience laughter dies down, the music takes on a livelier, more festive tone as the announcer introduces the "Ambassadors of the Wild"-gathered here today "...to honor the spirit of the tiger." With that, several animal trainers, outfitted in traveling safari costumes, enter the stadium. These cheerful walkaround "Ambassadors" proceed to stroll the aisles, proudly showing off a variety of exotic birds, reptiles and small mammals - a cockatoo, a macaw, a coatimundi, a porcupine, a rainbow boa constrictor, an albino python, a kinkajou, and a capuchin monkey. It's a fun, interactive wildlife experience that gives guests an exceptional close-up view of these fascinating creatures.

OPTIONAL SHILL BIT: As one of the walkaround Ambassadors holds up a small hinged wooden box, a "guest" [the shill] is overcome by curiosity. Ignoring the Ambassador's polite warning, and the ominous rattle emanating from the box, the imprudent "guest" reaches for the hinged lid. Before the Ambassador can react, the lid pops open and something long, furry and extremely toothy, springs out and wraps its body around the "guest's" neck! Apparently panic-stricken, the "guest" struggles with the creature, thrashing around as he tries to pull it away from his neck before finally collapsing to the stadium floor. An Ambassador rushes to his aid, but the "guest" acrobatically extricates himself from the grasp of the creature and to the delighted relief of the guests, reveals that he's actually a trainer.

MAIN SHOW (25 min.)

Scene 1a. Opening Number (3 min.): Call of the Wild

Soon the Ambassadors of the Wild, their little animal friends in hand, bid the audience farewell and make their way backstage. As they exit, the pre-show music crescendos to a rousing climax, the final chords reverberating through the stadium. In the hush that follows, the air seems to vibrate with anticipation. Gradually, the silence is replaced by primal sounds: the whisper of the tropical wind through a rainforest canopy... the rumble of distant thunder... the calls of jungle birds and the low, menacing growls of unseen predators. And then a disembodied human voice-wise, mystical, and compelling-is heard warmly welcoming the audience. "For thousands of years, no creature has so fascinated the human race like the mighty tiger..." intones the voice. "Its fearsome teeth and claws... its lean, muscular grace... its stealth, power, courage and beauty are the stuff of legend in cultures all over the world." The announcer goes on to proclaim that we are gathered in this sacred, ancient place to meet this awesome predator, to marvel at its strength and agility... and to ponder the fate of this vanishing species in a rapidly changing world.

The announcer's voice gives way to the sonorous roar of a trumpeting elephant, which echoes through the stadium. Before the sound of the elephant call has had a chance to fully dissipate, the air is pulsating with the sounds of jungle drums-as loud as thunder and as insistent as a heartbeat. Suddenly, colorfully-garbed "tribal percussionists" appear in the front aisle, pounding passionately on primitive native drums.

Moments later, the drummers are joined in the front aisle by several ceremonial Huli Vesha tiger dancers, whose close-fitting costumes replicate the magnificent coloration and markings of the beasts they honor. A realistic, life-size tiger mask and tail complete the ensemble-but it is the incredible choreography that most captivates the guests. The exciting martial arts - inspired dance moves capture the attitudes, mannerisms, and movements of real tigers with uncanny fidelity.
